Travel Tips for Dental Patients

Everything you need to know about getting to Tirana, where to stay, and what to enjoy between your appointments at Elonix Clinic.

Your Guide to Visiting Tirana

Tirana, Albania's capital, is a vibrant, welcoming city that surprises first-time visitors with its energy and charm. Here is everything you need to make your dental trip comfortable and enjoyable.

Getting to Tirana

Tirana International Airport (TIA), also known as Rinas Airport, receives direct flights from most major European cities:

  • From Italy: Direct flights from Rome, Milan, Bologna, Venice, Naples, Bari (1-2 hours)
  • From Spain: Direct flights from Barcelona and Madrid (3 hours)
  • From UK: Direct flights from London Luton and London Stansted (2.5 hours)
  • From USA: Connecting flights via Rome, Istanbul, or London

Budget airlines like Wizz Air and Ryanair offer affordable fares, often under €50 one-way from European cities.

Airport Transfers

Elonix provides a complimentary airport pickup for all treatment patients. Our driver will meet you at arrivals with your name on a sign. The drive to central Tirana takes 20-25 minutes.

For your return to the airport, we arrange your transfer based on your flight time.

Where to Stay

We recommend staying in the Blloku neighbourhood, which is walking distance from the clinic and the most popular area for restaurants and cafes.

Budget (€30-50/night)

Clean, comfortable 3-star hotels and apartments. Good Wi-Fi and central locations. Many include breakfast.

Mid-Range (€50-90/night)

4-star hotels with modern amenities, restaurants, and sometimes spa facilities. Excellent value compared to Western Europe.

Luxury (€90-150/night)

5-star international brands and boutique hotels. Full-service amenities, pools, and fine dining on-site.

Our team can recommend specific hotels and even help you book. Just ask when confirming your appointment.

Practical Information

  • Currency: Albanian Lek (ALL), but Euros are widely accepted. ATMs are everywhere.
  • Language: Albanian. English and Italian are widely spoken, especially in central Tirana.
  • Power outlets: European Type C/F (230V). UK and US visitors need an adapter.
  • Mobile data: Local SIM cards are cheap (€5-10 for a week of data). Most cafes and hotels have free Wi-Fi.
  • Safety: Tirana is very safe for tourists. Normal city precautions apply.
  • Weather: Mediterranean climate. Hot summers, mild winters. Pack accordingly for your visit dates.
  • Taxis: Affordable. Use apps like Speed Taxi or agree on a price beforehand. Typical city ride: €3-5.

Things to Do Between Appointments

You will have free time between dental appointments - here are some ways to enjoy it:

  • Blloku district: Walk through the trendiest neighbourhood with cafes, shops, and street art
  • Skanderbeg Square: The heart of Tirana with museums and historic buildings
  • Grand Park: A peaceful lakeside park perfect for a recovery-day stroll
  • Dajti Mountain: Take the cable car for panoramic views of Tirana
  • Durres beach: A 30-minute drive to the Adriatic coast (seasonal)
  • Traditional restaurants: Albanian cuisine is delicious and very affordable (€8-15 for a full meal)

Post-Treatment Tips

After dental procedures, enjoy Tirana's softer culinary options: try byrek (flaky pastry), tavë kosi (yoghurt-baked lamb), or fresh smoothies from the many juice bars. Avoid very hot or crunchy foods during recovery.
